Acceptable? A Look at my Eighties …

SuperGroup Internet Ltd - SUPERDRY

Found myself strolling down memory lane the other evening, and have had a slight feeling of nostalgia ever since. With that in mind, I decided to take a slightly different approach to today’s Hamstring post.

So after a certain period of deliberation, I decided to come up with my 10 favourite ‘things’ from a given decade. The rules were simple … NO RULES! The list is comprised of events, moments, catchphrases, films, songs … and anything else that came to mind! Either way, they all still make me smile to this day.

The chosen decade is the 80s, a time of mullets and martini! So read, laugh, weep, and sigh … and of course comment! (Remember, they’re in no particular order!)

Kenny Dalglish

Sir Vivian Richards

Clive Lloyd

  • Clive Lloyd’s West Indies beat England 5-0 in the 1984 Test Series, the first ‘Blackwash’ of its type
  • Viv Richards’ West Indies beat England 5-0 in the 1985/6 Test Series … another ‘Blackwash’

Well I’m Glad to Say we’re in the UK
West Indian Batsmen we can bat all day
And when de stumps are down half way cross de ground
You know de West Indians are back in town

  • Liverpool beat Everton 3-1 at Wembley, to complete the ‘Double in 1986. The only time I ever got myself out on purpose in a cricket match. Wanted to listen to the football!
  • Ghostbusters – film & song as one entry, as I ain’t ‘fraid a no ghost! – 1984
  • Duran Duran – ‘Girls on Film’ (video available here) – 1982
  • Alf Stewart (Ray Meagher) hits our screens in 1989 on Home and Away

Ghostbusters

Duran Duran

  • Diff’rent Strokes – first hit US screens in 1978, but the UK in 1980
  • Live Aid – a day never to be forgotten – 1985
  • My First Kiss … another never to be forgotten moment! On the dance floor at Moseley Rugby Club to Especially For You (oops!) – started in 1988 and ended in 1989 (identity of unfortunate other party known to some …)
  • With slight relation to the above, Kylie (yup, she needs no second name!) hit the BBC screens in Neighbours – 1986

What'choo talkin' 'bout Willis?

Kylie

Live Aid

So there is my slightly random and personal look at the eighties! Were they acceptable … ?
